Professor Andrew Gilbert

Andrew Gilbert is Professor and Director in the Quality Use of Medicines and Pharmacy Research Centre, Sansom Institute, University of South Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree, a Diploma of Applied Psychology and a PhD. Before joining the University he worked in his own community pharmacies for over 20 years.  His interests focus on medication use among the elderly and methods to ensure high quality use of medicines. His research has included a five-year program to develop collaborative medication management services and the development and implementation of standards of practice for medication use in community, hospital and aged-care settings. He is currently Director of the Veterans’ MATES project which provides patient specific prescribing feedback to medical practitioners, and health information to the veterans to improve outcomes for these patients.  He received the 2005 Australian Pharmacist of the Year award.
